Everywhere I go there I am

Have you ever found yourself thinking "if only I could run away" everything would then be okay? The mere idea of being able to run from reality, from the mundane, from responsibilities, and more sounds appealing to many of us, myself included.

There is only one small problem with this theory - we can never run away from ourselves.

It is so easy to believe that we are not at the center of our problems, but rather the world is. Our job is our problem, reality is our problem or whatever areas of your life you can find to blame your unhappiness on.

Unfortunately this could not be further from the truth. So often we discuss our problems as being separate from ourselves, but honestly our problems, issues, etc. are a part of who we are.

By running away we are only changing our physical environment, we are not changing the very problems that cause us to feel unhappy or in a void.

Money will not fix a feeling of loneliness or unhappiness. Marriage or children will not provide you with the promise of love and never being alone. Possessions will never fill that void you can't explain.

Your unhappiness is a part of who you are and it is important to figure out what exactly makes you unhappy. As humans we will turn to anything to feel better - drugs, shopping, relationships, exercise, food, etc. But these are only fixes in the moment we are doing them, we have to keep doing them to feel good.

However, until we actually decide to work on ourselves and take care of our inner selves we will never be truly happy. Running away will only cause temporary happiness, true happiness comes from learning to love yourself and recognize your self worth.

Happiness comes from the recognition that you have the power to make your life what you want it. If you are unhappy with your jobs, relationship, living environment, etc - figure out what you CAN do to make it better.

Relying on things outside of ourselves will always leave us disappointed in the end, because it is not coming from within. You have to learn how to be happy and comfortable in your own skin since this is the one thing you have control over.

When we take back power and control of our own lives rather than allowing things outside of ourselves to dictate our lives, we then can make true progress on ourselves.

So ask yourself - what do you wish you could run away from and figure out why you want to escape that thing. Is there another solution or way besides running? If there is you know where to start.

This won't happen overnight, rather it will be a process to grow, face your fears and stop trying to run from yourself.

But, once you make the commitment to work on you and your life, there won't be a need to run anymore. You will be making the changes necessary to make you happier from the inside out.

Don't get me wrong though, a trip to paradise never hurts either. As long as you come to accept that you can't run from your problems by running to paradise.

What can you do today to make your life better for tomorrow?
